Semester III Week 5 Honors College Experience

On September the 27th, the Honors College hosted a potluck for the Honor Students. This event gave the Seniors time to get to know some of the other incoming Midways as well as other Honors Students from other Honors programs. This event was successful in the fact that there was lots of food to eat. The turn out was great, I was guess about 50 students attended. Its easy to get students involved when there is food involved! This counts for an hour of my time for Collo.

Semester III Week 4 Honors College Experience

On September 27th our Collo class held a meeting with a representative from IRB. The purpose was for the students that is writing their thesis that is gathering data from human subjects. The mission of the IRB board is to ensure that subjects are treated properly and are not subject to misconduct. This meeting was very informative as the person leading the meeting was my IRB Coordinator. I do realize that I am a bit behind in the process, so I am trying to finish my IRB x-file ASAP. I am hoping to be finished with it this week. I was at this meeting for an hour, which we was told if we attended then we would receive double time. This gave me two hours towards my total of 30 hours.

Semester III Week 4 Honors College Experience

One September 18 I sat in a Senate meeting for the Student Government Association. The reason for this meeting was to secure the funds need from Buc Funds for Tau Sigma's event coming up for National Transfer Week. The object for this event is to show Transfer student that they are not forgotten and are a very important part of ETSU. This meeting was for an hour. Although the funding was not secured at this meeting only because there was not enough SGA Senate members to hold official business. The meeting was rescheduled for the 25th of September. I was at this meeting for an Hour also. This counts for two of my hours for Collo.

Semester III Week#3 Honors College Experience

On September the 14, I was part of a student panel for the Department of Education's Online Retreat. I sat on three different panels. Each was the same student panel but a different set of faculty.  I was asked by the Honors College to participate. I agreed. The panel was insight for faculty because it gave them the students perspective on online classes. The students was asked questions about engagement, thing we liked and disliked, and was asked for any ideas they we may have to better their classes. The panel ended up more of a debate, but I think this was very helpful for the faculty there because it let them see us voice concerns about different side of the story. Now they can better structure their class to ensure student are better engaged and ending with better grades. It was nice being on this panel. I was the only undergrad there, so that was a bit crazy. I held my ground though and was well received. It was amazing to be part of something that produces change and ma

Semester III Week#3 Honors College Experience

On September the 13th I went and set in a meeting for Student Organization Orientation for Alpha Sigma Lambda. This is a Honor Society here at ETSU for adult learners. Being a transfer and an adult learning, I sometimes feel as though these groups are sweep under the rug and forgot about. However, ETSU does not do that. This orientation is mandatory for any student organization. It goes over the rules and activities that our clubs are and are not allowed to do. It was interesting because I learned about so many tools that are available to our clubs. These tools ensure that organizations have what they need to succeed. I was there from 9:00a.m. till 10:00a.m. Because of this meeting I am better prepared for my  year as President of Tau Sigma.

Semester III Week#1 Honors College Experience

On Saturday August the 25th I attended Preview as a Student Ambassador. Preview is a weekend set aside for incoming freshman and transfer student to come to our campus and get to know each other and get some things finalized before the start of school. I was there from 7:30a.m. till 4:30p.m. I was able to walk around with the transfer group of students and make sure they was where they needed to be. I also was able to explain to them some insight as to how different things work at ETSU.  Like to get at school at least 30 mins before class starts to allow time to find a parking space. This event was very helpful for the student. It gave them the opportunity to become familiar with some faces that they will see around campus, plus it gave them a chance to become familiar with where their classes would be. I did not realize just how much I know about my school. It is amazing to be part of such a successful school. Go Bucs!!
