Semester II Week 1 Honors College Experience!!

On Friday the 12th of January I attended the Welcome back Back Bash for Transfer Students as part of my transfer student committee. Here I assisted the transfer team from ETSU in welcoming the new students thru different activities. I was at the event from 1 until 6 on this day. This concludes my service hours for the semester. It was a lot of fun, making all the other students feel more comfortable with the transition to a four year university. I found out last semester myself that it isn't an easy thing to transition from a two year to a four year. That's is why I invested my time to this event, so that I can help others eliminate some of the challenges that faced me upon my arrival here at ETSU.

Week# 13 Honors College Experience

This is the last week of the semester and feel like I need to reflect. Looking back on the semester, I can see personal growth towards achieving some of my life time goals. I want to finish my college education. As a transfer student, this was my first semester at a university. It was a hard transition for me to undertake. At times I have felt as though I am living a double life. My home life which consist of running a household and work, then there is my school life. It took me awhile to get to be comfortable in who am as a student here at ETSU. Now that I am in my groove again, I can see how sheer determination can carry you through to the end. During this time is when I had to decide to succumb to the stress or focus on just taking one day at a time. One project at a time. I can say that I have gave 100% of what I have. Very pleased with knowing that my thesis is going to be a lot of work as a whole, but when broken down over the reminder of the time left to finish it, it is not tha...

Week# 12 Honors College Experience

On November 30, 2017 I gave my presentation for my thesis proposal. I feel confident in my presentation. It was a topic that I did not think I would much interested in because I am unable to get a mentor for my thesis because of not having the required class to get a mentor. I am enrolled in the class for the next semester, but until then I had to meet the requirements for the class I am in this semester. It was heart breaking to know that I was pouring time into a project that I was not going to be able to use. I followed my thoughts and dove into a problem that I thought would work for my discipline. Through my research, I developed the thesis of, "What are the effects on motivation of a democratic leadership style within the work place?" I really feel like this is appropriate for my discipline because  many of my classes have taught me that the best place to change the motivation level in a work environment is through management. I am a business major with a concentration ...

Week#12 Honors College Experience

On Tuesday November 28,2017 I attended the last meeting for the student transfer committee. During this meeting we discussed how the outcome of the semester was, plans for next semester and dates for events that happen over the semester break. The plans for next semester is to try and make transfer student, such as myself, feel more at home. This is important because if one is comfortable about knowing someone then that individual is less likely to do better. Our goal and purpose of the committee is to ensure the transition is as smooth as possible. I feel as the committee has reached our goals for the semester by implementing changes that was beneficial for future transfer students. The meeting was an hour long.

Week#11 Honors College experience

On Tuesday November 14, 2017 I attended the Honors Pinning Ceremony for the Honors students that will be graduating this semester. The purpose of this event is to recognize the students, that are graduating, by presents them with their honor's stole and pin. While the presenting of the stole and pin is going on, another representative from each of the honors discipline reads what the graduating students thesis was along with who their mentor was. I really liked this event because it brings all the honors students together in one place. The atmosphere that is created when we all come together is impossible to stop. The best of the best in the same room can only lead to great thoughts and ideas being exchanged. It also gave me hope to finish my journey through my degree. Being able to see what some of my rewards will be has been much needed during my first semester as a transfer student.

Week# 10 of Honors College Experience

On November 14,2017 The Honors College held our Pinning Ceremony in the Culp Ballroom. This event showcases our upcoming graduating class. At this celebration the graduates major, thesis title, future plans, and shared their most memorable times at ETSU.  Attending this event was inspiring for me to watch. I was please to hear one student graduating is in my specific field of study. I was happy for them to see all their hard work starting to pay off. They have very bright futures ahead of them. It also laid the inspiration needed to fulfil my passion of earning my B.B.A. and hopeful for my M.B.A. As this semester is coming to an end, I would have never thought that through this process I would have written a thesis proposal. I have a presentation on it due later this month. It was very daunting to undertake this feat. I thought I would never be able to produce this level of work, but I have done all that is require of me while servicing my school, community, pro...

Week#7 Honors College Experience

On October 31, 2017 our class discussed the topic, "What do you value?" Through our debate about the areas of happiness, family, and wealth. I came to the conclusion that they all play a part in making one live a valuable life. Going into this discussion, I thought that one was more important than another. Our group had some very interesting points of view for the other. It came down to the fact that in order to have contentment, one must have a balance of all the topics. I can say that in my life, I have a good balance of wealth, friends, and happiness. I have been blessed with an array of people in my life that always gives me a clearer vision about the things that happen through one's life and just how those things can influence me for the positive. If you are not happy with where your life is headed, I encourage you to set back and examine these areas of your life and reflect on what you value. You might find that some things in your life have been given the wrong amo...
