Week #4 of the Honors College Experience

On September 20,2017 I was ask to attend Alpha Beta Iota's Weekly Chapter meeting with Karla Leboyd as a Midway Honors Scholar. At this meeting Karla and I introduced the Honors College at ETSU. This gave me an opportunity to inform the potential transfer students all the positives of being a Midway Scholar.  Of course most members wanted to know what the scholar was and the amount that accompanied it. I am very pleased at the turn out for the meeting. Students left informed about ETSU's Honors College and how to apply. I meet one of my long term goals this week by helping give back to the community that has given so freely unto me. I am humbled to show other students that hard work and dedication can pay off. Seeing students excited about school thrills me beyond belief. The meeting was an hour long, so I have almost meet my community service hours for the semester. When my hours are meet, I still plan on giving my time where it is needed. My class requirements are getting don

Week# 3

Today, September 13, 2017, I woke up feeling reflective. I decided to go and check out the Reese Museum on campus. I did not anticipate that the past would humble me. I love learning about the past. The history tells a lot about a person, a place, or a nation. Most of the museum that I was able to see today, showcased a lot of facts and the Holocaust. I found myself going from one piece of information to the next thinking that it could not get much worse. I can not believe that one race was able to make a thing like this happen. It remind me of many problems that our society faces today. It is not on the scale that the Holocaust was but it is very problematic. Our society has got away from thinking of others before their self. If one could just stop and think, regardless of one's religion, race, or sexually orientation we are all just individuals trying to make it through this thing called life. I must say, today has been a great day. I am so glad to have made it into the honors co

Week# 2 of Honors College Experience

On Wednesday, September 6, 2017 I was ask be the chapter president of Alpha Beta Iota to attend the weekly meeting that they hold for members. I was ask to talk about the Midway Honors Scholarship. I always was able to answer a few specific questions that a couple members had. The meeting was 1.5 hours which I will apply to my volunteer hours required for the Honors Collo Class. I learned that just because you have moved on from something, that departure does not mean that your assistance is still of value to a lot of people. This reinsures me that my ultimate goal of changing the world is slowly becoming a reality. I love that I have a servants heart.

Week#1 of the Honors College Experience

I attended the first meeting of the Adult Student Transfer Committee on Monday, August 28,2017. During this meeting the committee talked about various ways that administration could improve the transfer process. That would lead to a smoother transfer experience. Several programs was brought up that would make this mission a reality. The most common solution was more events that would connect transfer and incoming students together in a more tight fitting way. These ideas are in the process of being brought up to the Adult Transfer Committee and is hoping to be approved. This meeting was 1.5 hours long. I am using this time towards my 5 hours of volunteering for my Honors Collo requirements. This gave me an opportunity to meet and become more acquainted with faculty and administration here at ETSU. As I have learned, one never knows who can play an instrumental piece in your journey. It has also gave me a chance to be a voice for the student body. It pleases me to be a part of something
I am currently a transfer student from Walter State Community College in Morristown, Tennessee. I have now attend my first week of classes at ETSU in Johnson City, Tennessee. As being part of the Honors College, I was asked to start a blog as part of my Honors Collo class. I decided to do mine on what the Honor's College experience is for me and hallmark important things I do as part of the program. I hope my experience will help others decide to participate in the Honors Program at ETSU, or with your own college. I would like to start of by giving a brief history about me and my college experience so far. I am a non-traditional first generation college graduate. I received my Associates of Science in Business Management with a certificate of General Studies at Walters State Community College. I was President and A Five Star Member of Alpha Beta Iota of Phi Theta Kappa, Vice President of Kappa Beta Delta, member of Psi Beta, Treasurer of Word Up, Tennessee Promise Mentor, made the
