Week# 13 Honors College Experience

This is the last week of the semester and feel like I need to reflect. Looking back on the semester, I can see personal growth towards achieving some of my life time goals. I want to finish my college education. As a transfer student, this was my first semester at a university. It was a hard transition for me to undertake. At times I have felt as though I am living a double life. My home life which consist of running a household and work, then there is my school life. It took me awhile to get to be comfortable in who am as a student here at ETSU. Now that I am in my groove again, I can see how sheer determination can carry you through to the end. During this time is when I had to decide to succumb to the stress or focus on just taking one day at a time. One project at a time. I can say that I have gave 100% of what I have. Very pleased with knowing that my thesis is going to be a lot of work as a whole, but when broken down over the reminder of the time left to finish it, it is not tha

Week# 12 Honors College Experience

On November 30, 2017 I gave my presentation for my thesis proposal. I feel confident in my presentation. It was a topic that I did not think I would much interested in because I am unable to get a mentor for my thesis because of not having the required class to get a mentor. I am enrolled in the class for the next semester, but until then I had to meet the requirements for the class I am in this semester. It was heart breaking to know that I was pouring time into a project that I was not going to be able to use. I followed my thoughts and dove into a problem that I thought would work for my discipline. Through my research, I developed the thesis of, "What are the effects on motivation of a democratic leadership style within the work place?" I really feel like this is appropriate for my discipline because  many of my classes have taught me that the best place to change the motivation level in a work environment is through management. I am a business major with a concentration

Week#12 Honors College Experience

On Tuesday November 28,2017 I attended the last meeting for the student transfer committee. During this meeting we discussed how the outcome of the semester was, plans for next semester and dates for events that happen over the semester break. The plans for next semester is to try and make transfer student, such as myself, feel more at home. This is important because if one is comfortable about knowing someone then that individual is less likely to do better. Our goal and purpose of the committee is to ensure the transition is as smooth as possible. I feel as the committee has reached our goals for the semester by implementing changes that was beneficial for future transfer students. The meeting was an hour long.

Week#11 Honors College experience

On Tuesday November 14, 2017 I attended the Honors Pinning Ceremony for the Honors students that will be graduating this semester. The purpose of this event is to recognize the students, that are graduating, by presents them with their honor's stole and pin. While the presenting of the stole and pin is going on, another representative from each of the honors discipline reads what the graduating students thesis was along with who their mentor was. I really liked this event because it brings all the honors students together in one place. The atmosphere that is created when we all come together is impossible to stop. The best of the best in the same room can only lead to great thoughts and ideas being exchanged. It also gave me hope to finish my journey through my degree. Being able to see what some of my rewards will be has been much needed during my first semester as a transfer student.
